The love angels have for their Creator and for humanity is unconditional and unceasing. They have no need to find a lover for they are lovers in the highest sense. As St. Thomas Aquinas, the thirteenth - century philosopher and theologian, said, "Angels cannot help loving by force of nature." Our idea of love is often focused on romantic love, which, as we all know, can be a minefield.
There can come a time in our lives when we want to retreat from the sometimes hurtful world of romantic liaison. Celibacy means merely abstaining from sexual relations. Chastity, however, also suggests purity and a commitment to the higher, platonic love of the Divine.
The Angel of Purity is Tahariel. He is there to help us commit to a period - however short - of chastity, allowing us to purify heart, soul, and body. Before invoking Tahariel, take a bath, set a white Madonna lily, symbol of pure of virginal love, on your altar, and light a single white candle. An invocation to Tahariel should, as always, be addressed to the four sacred directions, starting in the east. It may go something like this:
In the name of the Almighty Creator,
From the fire of whose love the angels were born,
I beseech you, Tahariel, Angel of Purity,
To ignite a purifying fire in my heart
And allow a purer passion to grow -
May own true love for One and All.
I thank and honor you for hearing this my prayer,
In the name of the Almighty.
