According to the Talmud, a woman in labour should recite Psalm 20 nine times to ensure an easy birth. As an alternative, you may prefer to call upon angelic assistance. While Gabriel and Temeluch take care of the unborn child in the womb, it is the angel Armisael who is traditionally call upon to assist with labour. You could plan to handle the situation in advance by writin a letter of petition to Armisael using angelic script before your due date. If further assistance is required or the situation becomes critical, the following invocation can be performed. (If the mother-to-be is unable to perfore the invocation herself, it can, of course, be performed on her behalf.)
Green is the colour of initiation and childbirth, so first light a green candle. If candle burning is not permitted in the place you are having your baby, visualize a bright green light as you recite these words to the four cardinal points, starting in the east and working deosil (clockwise):
In the name of the Almighty, the Creator of all things,
Creator of us both, I beseech you great Angel Armisael,
As protector of mother and child in birth,
to grant this child safe passage
And save (me) the mother from injury
And overwhelming pain.
I honour you and thank you
For performing this your duty,
In the name of the Almighty.
The strength of the invocation can be enhanced by sprinkling saltwater around the labour room beforehand. In case of extreme emergency the Ritual of the Pentagram can be performed, calling upon the added assistance of the Four Great Archangels.
