Sandalphon is widely considered in angel lore to be one of the
most important angels in Heaven. He is said to be the twin
of Metatron, the ruling angel of Heaven. Legend has
it that Sandalphon was once the prophet Elijah, as Metatron was once
the prophet Enoch. Sandalphon is personally responsible for the
welfare of humankind.
Sandalphon is the angel who decides the gender of a chid upon its
conception. Should you wish to choose the gender of a
hoped-for child, you light a candle on your altar. Burn some
sandalwood incense and take a bath. Contemplate your reasons for
preferring a child of a particular gender and feel the love you
would have for this child. Put on a fresh white nightgown and
pray to Sandalphon to intercede on your behalf, using the following
petition:
O great and glorious Angel Sandalphon,
Who intercedes untiringly on behalf of all humanity,
We beseech you in the name of the almighty,
Creator of all above and below,
To grant this, our wish, should we conceive this night,
To bless us with a boy/girl child.
Knowing this to be your holy office,
We place our hopes and trust in you,
In the name of the Almighty.
