In all traditional cultures there is a prevalent belief in evil spirits. Misfortunes, madness, and sicknesses are attributed to their malign attentions, and all manner of charms and amulets may be employed to ward them off. Sorcerers and malefactors are believed to employ such spirits, but even without them the power of their projected thoughts can be strong enough to cause harm.
In the developed countries we live in less superstitious times and find it more comforting to believe that rational explanations can be found for unpleasant situations. No one can tell us with certainty what the truth really is in such matters. As individuals we may have our own views, based on experience, belief, or intuition. If you feel in some way "spooked," or the something's "eating you," it may be worth looking for some psychic or spiritual protection.
One of the angels most commonly invoked to ward off evil spirits is Lahabiel, an angel of the First Day, Sunday, who works under Archangel Michael the Dragonslayer. Lahabiel has specific duties as a "Jinxbuster," and he can be a powerful ally. The best time to petition or invoke him is on a Sunday. The best ritual to invoke the protection of Lahabiel is the Ritual of the Pentagram, which is described in later pages. Alternatively, you could write Lahabiel's name in Theban script on a piece of leather and wear it on your person as a protective amulet.
