The Earth is still evolving, still giving birth, shifting and
contracting. This poses dangers for those who live on its
surface. Earthquakes occur with a terrifying suddenness and
the survival of those caught in the epicenter is in the lap
of the angels. Seismologists, scientists who study
earthquakes, are working hard to develop early-warning systems to try
to anticipate the occurrence of such seismic disruptions.
It seems that our relatives in the animal kingdom are much more
sensitive than our best instruments to the onset of earthquakes,
sometimes many hours or even days ahead. We must hope that they
may be able to help us. In the meantime, those who live along
established fault lines remain at risk.
The fact is that all of us owe our every waking moment to the
grace of God. Part of the way of truth and
humility lies in accepting this without fear or complaint.
Nevertheless, we can help protect ourselves and others by communicating
with the angels. An angel who traditionally has dominion over
earthquakes is Suiel. We can invoke him to ward off or
mitigate the effects of such catastrophes. To invoke Suiel
we can light four white candles, symbolizing hope and stability.
We can also burn a little myrrh.
In the name of the Almighty Creator,
Who allows all things to be,
I invoke you, great angel Suiel,
As Ruler of Earthquakes,
To provide the means of warning,
Against impending upheaveal.
May you ease the birth pangs of Mother Earth,
That she shudder less violently.
May you guide our builders to build more safely.
