An evocation differs from an invocation or a petition in that it embodies a request, or a summons, for a specific spirit to manifest before us instead of simply an address to an angel. This is not easy to achieve, and great care must be taken with every aspect of the ritual. Any mistake may result in an unpleasant, possibly dangerous, experience.
From the point of view that sees angels as powerful manifestations of psychic energy, and evocation may be said to be a potentially mind-blowing experience, unleashing, as it does, very powerful energies from the unconscious. From the more literal perspective, one is drawing into a confined space a spiritual being of enormous energy.
May these warnings serve to discourage you from attempting an evocation until you are fully conversant with invocations and petitions; have made successful contact with your personal guardian angel; and have familiarized yourself with the energetic qualities of the angel to be evoked. This ritual evokes the female form of the Angel Hagiel, the Intelligence of Venus, planet of love and affection.
The Ritual
Before attemption this ritual you should have familiarized yourself with it so well that you can visualize everything with your eyes shut. Make a checklist of all the necessary items and have them ready. Purify yourself in advance, as outlined previously. The ritual is to be performed on a Friday night at 10 o'clock, the day and hour of Venue.
Put a green lightbulb in the light of the room. After bathing, put on a green robe and a copper necklace with a green stone. Anoint your wrists, breast, and temples with apricot oil mixed with a drop each of sandalwood and cinnamon oils.
On the east side of the circle you will make, place a triangle of green silk with equal sides about 18 inches (47 cm) long. On the cloth place a seven-pointed star cut from green card. Make a circle around the cloth (clockwise) with 49 green-coloured stones (you can substitute small flour balls made with water, white flour and green vegetable dye). Forty-nine is Hagiel's number (seven) squared.
Place a green candle at the east, south, west and north points of the circle. Light them and extinguish all other lights except the green light. Burn some cinnamon and sandalwood. Now face the east, with the cloth a few feet in front of you, and perform the Kabbalistic Cross as explained earlier. Then perform the Ritual of the Pentagram as explained earlier, at the end of which you should find yourself facing the east.
Now you may invoke the lovely Angel Hagiel. The invocation is simple: Intone her name silently seven times in your mind (ha-gee-el); then whisper her name seven times; then call her seven times in ringing tones, concluding, equally loud, "Come thou before me"! If you have been in calm, confident command of the whole process up until this point, you should observe a beautiful female form materialize before your eyes.
You will likely be stunned by her presence, but her manner is always sweet and affectionate. Keep control of yourself - remember you are in charge! - and ask her to bestow the gift of unconditional love on the person of your choise. You may now thank her and bid her farewell. She will slowly fade from sight.
If she failed to appear, try again! Remember; it is what you bring, in terms of powerful, confident, contained energy that determines your success in evoking angels.
